Lymphatic System :
- Lymphatic system consists of -
- lymph
- Lymphatic vessels
- Some organs and tissues.
- The word ‘lymph’ means ‘clear water’ and it is a fluid connective tissue with almost similar composition to the blood except RBCs, platelets and some proteins.
- Fluid from intercellular spaces of the body tissue enters into the lymphatic vessel.
- Then it is discharged into the blood vessels (veins) through the thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct.

- Tonsils are small lymphatic nodules in pharyngeal region.
- Normally there are five tonsils strategically positioned to fight against inhaled and ingested foreign substances.
- Inflammation of tonsils is called as tonsillitis.
- It is caused due to viral or bacterial infection.
- Symptoms : sore throat, fever, swollen lymph nodes, nasal congestion, difficulty in swallowing, headache, etc.
- Viral tonsillitis cures naturally but bacterial tonsillitis needs antibiotic treatment.
- Tonsillectomy is performed in some patients who do not respond to the treatment.
